The Wardrobe is a three-part series of works that includes The Wardrobe I, II and III; a display, a shelving unit and a slideshow. In this series of works I am looking into the role of the wardrobe as ‘the other person in the room’; it’s always there, always present, watching and witnessing what is happening.

For The Wardrobe I and II I reconstructed wooden parts of the wardrobe that was in my studio during the time I studied fashion. The Wardrobe III is a slideshow showing more than 100 photographs which I took during that period, all showing the wardrobe in its original state in the background.
During the final year of this study I struggled a lot with the the hierarchical and competitive fashion culture, and was like many of my classmates, under high pressure from intense workloads and short deadlines. On these photographs we see the moments in between; a room in total chaos, try-outs, dirty hands and tired faces.

Combined with new wooden beams and a freshly welded metal structure the work as a whole shows different moments in time, like memories that deform over the years and get new meanings after new insights.
