The Most Romantic Pink

performance

20 min.
collaboration with Noemi Hofstede
and Menno van den Ende

2024

-A ritual for the broken heart-

The world seems the be in a crisis of love. At least that is what Noemi Hofstede thought when she initiated the performance “The Most Romantic Pink”. After a bad break-up she invited Menno Van den Ende and Esra Westerburgen to create a performance in which the moments of choosing and de-choosing each other in a relationship are being explored.

When we fall in love, we choose for each other. But what happens when we de-choose? What remains when we say goodbye ? The disability to choose for each other seems to be a widespread phenomenon in today's dating discourse. This shows in an abundance of memes, self-help-shorts and articles covering this topic.

“The Most Romantic Pink” is not giving any answers to the question why relationships fail, but zooms in to the moment of attachment and de-attachment. It is a ritual for the broken heart, a reflection of the modern love-crisis many us will recognize. The performance is musically guided by a landscape of singing in which the emotions of love and loss come together.

Music + initiative by Noemi Hofstede
Decor by Menno van den Ende
Choreography + styling by Esra Westerburgen
Piano by Anouk Pouwels
Performed by Tobente Luijken & Sam Maske

at Kunstkerk, Dordrecht, September 2024
